Deanna Fry

Deanna Fry (pronounced Dean-nuh) is an accomplished Senior Producer, celebrated for her award-winning work in broadcast journalism. A 2006 graduate of Indiana University - Bloomington with a BAJ, Deanna currently resides in Washington, DC. She is a Peabody and National Emmy award-winning Senior Producer for “American In Black” on BET and a key member of CBS News’s Race & Culture Unit.

Before her promotion to Senior Producer, Deanna served as Supervising Producer for CBS News’s “Face The Nation.” Since joining CBS in 2019 in New York City, she has been instrumental in producing groundbreaking stories, including coverage of the George Floyd and Breonna Taylor deaths and the Ahmaud Arbery case, where CBS became the first national network to cover his tragic story under her leadership.

Deanna’s nearly 20-year career in broadcasting reflects her versatility and dedication. She has excelled as a tape, field, and line producer in local news, delivering comprehensive coverage of significant events such as the Sandy Hook shooting, the Boston Marathon bombing, and multiple Presidential visits. Her influence extends beyond CBS News, having held pivotal roles with FOX, NBC, ABC, and PBS affiliates.

Before her tenure at CBS, Deanna was a coordinating producer at Hearst Television’s Washington, DC bureau, covering the Trump Administration and Democratic Presidential Primaries.

A proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Deanna has also been a dedicated member of the National Association of Black Journalists for 20 years and serves on the Alumni Board of Indiana University's Media School. Her commitment to nurturing the next generation of journalists highlights her significant impact on the broadcast news industry, fostering the growth of many upcoming professionals.

As a journalist, Deanna's career is driven by a relentless pursuit of truth and solutions, and as a Black woman, she is deeply committed to giving her time, talent, and treasures to causes that promote equity and justice. The 15 White Coats embodies these values by working to diversify the medical field, providing scholarships, mentorship, and culturally relevant educational resources to underrepresented students aspiring to become healthcare professionals.
